Gaining Control of Ourselves Anger is a basic human emotion. It is used to express negative feelings such as fear, rage, unhappiness, discontent, depression and more. These expressions are often used by individuals to gain attention, control, and influence when they get angry. Expression of anger is a learned response. Therefore these behaviors may be unlearned through the reconditioning of oneself. The primary goal of Citizens’ Anger Management Program is to teach acceptable expressions of anger and to eliminate violent and self-destructive behaviors in our lives. Program participants will learn to identify and control their anger so that it does not become a destructive force in their lives. The skills provided in the program related to coping with feeling of anger without using substances or varying forms of violence. Goals/Purpose The goals of this course are: 1. To facilitate recognition and management of anger 2. To develop acceptable ways of managing anger Performance Objectives Upon completion of the program, participants will: 1. Recognize the role of individual responsibility in changing their unacceptable behavior. 2. Develop a working understanding of anger/stress patterns and related responses. 3. Increase their knowledge about stress and learn skills for managing stress. 4. Better identify “situational anger” likely to lead to negative behavior 5. Enhance their emotional intelligence 6. Development communication skills and listening techniques to enhance interpersonal relationships. Instructional Strategies Instructional methods include: 1. Individual/Group process 2. Multimedia presentation 3. Discussions 4. Facilitator discourse 5. Reading material/handouts Evaluation Participants will take responsibility for their anger Participants will demonstrate ability to use skills learned
