Phase 1

During the initial contact with an incarcerated person our aim is to help them focus upon their role and responsibility as a member of the community, their need to change, and upon their eventual return to society.  These efforts include interaction that encourages addressing issues that contributed to the incarceration, self-improvement, and individual and group counseling.  It is during this phase that individuals who wish to work with Citizens are introduced to our “never again initiative”.  “Never again” is the affirmation and a firm commitment to do whatever it takes to insure that there will not be a return to a life of crime and a return to prison.

Never Again . . .

  • Shall I offend against those in my community
  • Shall I be read my rights
  • Shall I wear handcuffs
  • Shall I live in a cell
  • Shall I ask my family and friends to visit me in prison
  • Shall I live a life of crime

The first step in every action is to develop positive thoughts.  We are currently working to develop additional programming we hope to introduce into facilities around the state.
